Sachin Tendulkar is unlikely to play in Mumbai Indians' IPL Qualifier 2 in Kolkata on Friday against the Rajasthan Royals as he is yet to recover from his left-wrist injury he sustained in a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad last week.

"Sachin Tendulkar has injured his left wrist and hand while batting in the game against SRH on 13th May. On investigations we have found that there is some swelling in the wrist and around one of the tendons of his left hand," Mumbai Indians said in a statement.

"We have addressed this with an injection in his hand by a hand and wrist specialist. He is currently under rehab and is progressing well. The normal recovery time for this injury is around 3 weeks, however rehab results in the past 9 days have shown reasonable improvements and we are hopeful to get him back in action as soon as possible," the statement said.

Mumbai Indians also said that pacer Dhawal Kulkarni will no longer take part in the tournament.

"Dhawal has sustained a side-strain during the game against Kings XI Punjab in Dharamshala on 18th May. He will take about 6 weeks to recover completely and has been ruled out of the rest of the tournament."

Mumbai lost the Qualifier 1 against Chennai Super Kings by 48 runs in Delhi on Tuesday night.

Among the top five batsmen for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League this season, Dinesh Karthik feels Ricky Ponting has had a great influence on his performance. The Australian legend gave up the Mumbai captaincy due to a lack of form, but according to Karthik, has made a significant contribution in the dressing room.

Karthik (388 runs) is Mumbai Indians' second best batsman behind Rohit Sharma (430) and this season has been a lot better than 2012. Careful planning and playing to a situation have been Karthik's route to success. In a team that has hitters like Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Smith and Sachin Tendulkar, Karthik has been happy to play second foil.

"When you know there are some big-hitting batsmen in the middle-order who can tonk the ball a mile, your role gets easier because you just try and get them on strike. When they are not around, you have the license to hit the big ones as well," Karthik told the iplt20.com website.(Old Interview)

Despite having won just four out of 11 games, Kolkata Knight Riders captain Gautam Gambhir is confident that his team will be able to beat Mumbai Indians in Tuesday's IPL encounter and stay in contention for the play-offs.

"We are very much in the race. I haven't heard anyone say that we're out. A lot of people are saying that we need to win five out of five. But if you see in the last three years teams have qualified in the top four with eight wins," Gambhir put up a brave face as his team prepares to take on the mighty Mumbai Indians.

"We're not thinking about the play-offs right now but we want to win as many games as we can from here," said Gambhir ahead of the crucial game.

Hard-hitting West Indian batsman Kieron Pollard on Friday expressed confidence that Mumbai Indians can make it to the play-offs in the Indian Premier League by winning their next two home games at the Wankhede Stadium.

Standing on the cusp of history, an upbeat India will go for the kill against a beleaguered Australia as they aim for an unprecedented 4-0 clean sweep by inflicting another defeat on the visitors in the fourth and final cricket Test starting in New Delhi on Friday.

Although the Indian team under Mohammed Azharuddin enjoyed a clean sweep against Graham Gooch's England back in 1993 but it was a three-Test series.

In their 81-year history of Test cricket, India have never won four consecutive Test matches in a series and Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his boys will certainly hold the distinction of being the first if they can get past Michael Clarke's men at the Feroz Shah Kotla.

In the driver's seat after two convincing wins, the stage is perfectly set for India to record their biggest-ever series win over a depleted Australia, who have been rocked by off-field controversies and dissensions, ahead of the third Test starting in Mohali on Thursday.

If the humiliating losses in Chennai and Hyderabad were not enough, the once mighty Australians were dealt a body blow with the expulsion of four key players, including vice-captain Shane Watson, for breach of discipline, ahead of their must-win game at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium.

While India had been whitewashed on quite a few occasions by the Kangaroos, the hosts' best efforts so far had been the 2-0 wins in 1979-80 (out of six Tests under Kim Hughes), 2008-09 (four matches) and 2010-11 (two games - both under Ricky Ponting's captaincy).

After putting the visitors on the mat, riding on Mahendra Singh Dhoni's individual brilliance and an equally impressive show from off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, the home team would aim to guard against complacency having learnt their lesson the hard way from the England series.

Dhoni and his men would be determined to ensure that Australians aren't let off the hook like Alastair Cook's England, who rallied to win the previous Test series 2-1.
