Star cricketer Sachin Tendulkar will attend the Gujarat Kensville Challenge golf tournament as its brand ambassador, the organisers said on Monday.
Tendulkar, who recently retired from the One-day cricket, is one of the brand ambassadors of the Kensville Golf and Country Club and the veteran batsman will attend the event on January 30 when Pro-am event will be played.
Indian golf icon Jeev Milkha Singh, who is hosting this European Challenge tour event, said Tendulkar's presence will give a boost to the event and also hoped that the senior cricketer will take up golf after retiring from Tests.
"It is good to have Sachin in the event. He is a brand ambassador besides me and Amitabh Bachchan and I hope he likes the sport and starts playing golf and join the likes of Kapil Dev, Madan Lal and Ajay Jadeja. He is a winner and I am sure he will do well," Jeev said.
Cricketers taking interest in golf is not new. In fact, international stars such as Brian Lara, Shane Warne and Ian Botham have taken up the sport and recently former Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene bought a franchise in Golf Premier League which will be launched this month.
